20 ways how to F—k up an economy!

Don’t get me wrong, continuously I’ve discussed economic factors and events with several sitting and aspiring politicians and pundits from both sides of the isle.
To say Holes and Homes is their main concern would be an understatement, but forgiving the lack of economic and financial intelligence by both the local bureaucracy and the ignorant presented for us to vote for, what we have seen is that they can’t even get the Mining and Housing sector right, so we didn’t stand much of a chance for anything else.
For those blaming either side for the problems, I say, they have both been as bad as each other, but given that we currently have a government with a massive, albeit, unstoppable majority of 18 members and an opposition of 2, this current government could really make some changes to fix things, but lets reflect first on both sides F-ups.
I’m releasing one of these at a time, then I’ll provide 20 ways they might make some positive changes, so in the new year we might be able to re-invigorate our currently sitting government to get back to work and maybe represent the people again, as most who know me can attest, I have a critical mind, with a positive outlook.
Number 8 – Which department name do we change today?
Over the years almost every election and change of government has brought with it a change in department identity. The Bureaucracy is supposed to remain politically unbiased.
However, after every election there are massive changes that costs the tax payer millions as they purge out those with dissenting opinions.
One of the major costs, not just in stationary, logo’s marketing and intellectual property and staff, but most notably in public perception of integrity, is due to the constant name changes given to departments.
It is the epitome of Narcissism that a politician feels that to cement some legacy, they change the name and functions of a department, without acknowledging or taking responsibility for the consequences.
As well as the massive brain drain that occurs after every purge, and the massive costs involved, there is the massive lack of direction.
Policies and Procedure are the blue prints for departments, the set of guidelines and playbook and directions that allow constant progress and immediate action. But, if you approached every NT Government department and asked for a copy of their policies and procedures, most would refer you to the Public service act as many just don’t have them.
If you look at the most advertised unfilled NT Government positions for the last two decades, you will consistently see policy advisers and the like. Why?
Because apart from it being a position where people are expected to write down the “How to and Dummy’s version” for not only the Politician of the day, but also for whole departments . The departments are so disjointed, disenfranchised and in so much disarray, the constant motivation for many of the staff is just to survive another day.
The lack of consistency, loyalty and direction is one of the reasons our bureaucracy fails to deliver on expected outcomes. This blame lies almost entirely on the political parties and their nonpartisan agendas and a blatant need to meet a psychopathic need of power and resentment.
Bullying, abuse, corruption, nepotism and targeted character assassination are all tools that have been promoted and used by both sides of politics in the Territory, but like all totalitarian psychopaths they have implemented acts, legislation and hidden the departments where you can seek justice.
Is it the ombudsman, administrator, supreme court or NT Civil administration tribunal today? Generally, nobody really knows?
Territorians have lost millions on these narcistic name changes and its about time they stop giving new names and agendas to every damn department.

I speak regularly to Territorian public servants and a classic example was looking at the resume for a friend. They have worked for the NT Government in the same basic role for over 18 years. But on their resume they have worked for several different departments with several different position names. I joked it was like a garbage collector being called a Waste management technician.
It would all be ok, if it was just that, a joke. But, it isn’t, its tax payers money, and its being squandered.
